Visit of the Indian delegation from the Department of AYUSH to the USA
A delegation of the following officers from the Department of AYUSH visited USA from 5 -10 April, 2009. The tour was undertaken in connection with opening of Indo-US Center for Research on Indian Systems of Medicine (CRISM) in the National Center for Natural Product Research, the University of Mississippi and also to conduct a Symposium on Indian Systems of Medicine and participation in the 8th Annual Oxford International Conference on the Science of Botanicals:

The Symposium on ISM was attended by 140 international delegates drawn from US Food and Drug Administration, NIH, NCCAM and scientists and experts from industries, R & D Institutions, academia and nonprofit institutions.
During the Inaugural Session a Brochure on CRISM was released and Website (crism.net ) was launched by Mrs. S. Jalaja, Secretary to Govt. of India.
Welcome Address by Prof Ikhlas Khan was followed by a presentation by Dr. G N Qazi, who elaborated on the genesis of CRISM. Smt. S. Jalaja, Secretary to Govt. of India presented a brief introduction and philosophy of Indian Systems of Medicine and also elaborated on the Govt. of India Initiatives for the development of Indian Systems of Medicine for domestic and global health. She told the august gathering that the Indian Systems of Medicine is relevant to both the developing and developed world. Yoga can equally play an important role for the promotional and preventive health. She also highlighted the importance of Unani medicines specially for the treatment of skin disorders like vitilago.
It was followed by presentation on Introduction to Ayurvedic System of Medicine, Regulatory aspects and Pharmacopoeial quality standards of Ayurveda ,Sidha and Unani drugs by Dr. S K Sharma, Advisor (Ayurveda) while Dr. Mohd Khalid Saddiqui, Director CCRUM presented an overview of Unani system of Medicine.
Dr. Padma Venkat, Joint Director, FRLHT talked about the role of reverse pharmacogonosy for standardizing ISM drugs.
Presentations were followed by a question answer sessions wherein the doubts of delegated with respect to various aspects of Indian system of Medicine were cleared.
