Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu
Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu (formerly RRL, Jammu) a constituent unit of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi, is one of the premier Institutes engaged in two major areas of research namely, Drug Design and Development and Microbial Biotechnology. However, overall aim of this Institute is to boost the industrial development of the North Western region of the country. The Laboratory was established in 1941 as a low key research and production centre known as Drug Research Laboratory of J&K State and was later on taken over by the CSIR in December 1957. The Institute was lucky to have Col. Sir Ram Nath Chopra, Prof. of Pharmacology as its Founder Director who was an outstanding luminary in the field of Medical Education and Research and has been widely acclaimed as the Father of Indian Pharmacology.
The long journey traversed by this Institute, till date is interspersed with prominent milestones which speak of its track record of achievements. Even though the Institute had for the last several years widened its scope of prospecting biodiversity of various geographical niches of the country, its suitable transformation finally has been recognized very recently and thus renamed as the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM). Presently the Institute is headed by Dr. Ram A Vishwakarma with research interests in Chemistry and Biology of Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) cell-surface molecules, Synthetic chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry and Glycobiology.
